The Kissing Hand Linky Party!

I sort of feel like I've blogged out this over and over, but Kinder Eagles is having a Kissing Hand/Back to School Book linky party!  I always read The Kissing Hand on the first day of school.  I think it would be great to read it before the first day but our school has more of an open house style meet and greet, it would be very difficult to read a book!  Anyway, we usually read the book and talk about how we felt before coming to school.  I usually pass out little heart stickers and the kids draw a pictures showing how they felt about going to school that morning.  This year I'm planning on a whole week of Kissing Hand themed activities including a Chester art book, song and poetry page and other math and literacy theme activities.  You can check out my unit and download my free Song and Poetry Journal pages at my Teachers Notebook store!  Then be sure to link up and share your Kissing Hand Ideas!

I Created a Facebook Page!

Kinder Fun is having a Facebook Mixer!

I've been at this off and on all day!  First I made a facebook accout linked to a different email than I normally use.  That seemed like a lot of trouble.  So I deleted that and made a page linked to my personal account and it seems like that is going to be easier to manage.  At least I hope so!  The next hard part was getting this little sign to link to my page.  I THINK I finally got it to work (although I'm pretty sure that I didn't do it correctly since I added it as a picture with a link and not on the HTML Java thing that I used when I made my button).  I thought I was pretty good with computers but today I really need blogging for dummies.  Is there a sight like that?  Does anybody else have THIS much trouble?  Oh well, I think it's done and now I'm proud of myself!
Check it out when you get a chance!  Thanks for stopping by!

Math Station Freebie and Another Giveaway Reminder!

My Teachers Pay Teachers giveaway ends tomorrow!  Click here to enter!

Here are my math station labels.  I have used  a few different variations over the years.  The best tip I ever got was from my friend Casey who taught me to print two copies.  One for the tub of materials and one for the ceiling!  That way the kids always know where the materials go!  I print up an extra copy for the shelf too, that way it's easier for kids to put materials away too!

Classroom Jobs with a Camping Theme!

It's a Linky Party! -

Inspired to join in the fun, I started working on my camping themed jobs!  Here’s what I’ve come up with! All of the names don’t have a camping theme, but I figure I will at least pair the job with a camping picture and that should do the trick!
Star Camper-We have a whole morning routine to cheer for this student.  Then this person picks a friend (a boy has to pick a girl and a girl has to pick a boy).  These students have three jobs for the day. I find this the best way to fill those jobs that that are gender specific and also the most coveted job of allpaper passer! 1.  Line leaders  2. Bathroom monitors 3. Paper passers.

Update * you can get the jobs by clicking here!

Weekly Jobs (some of my jobs require more than one student. I have a lot of jobs because I have a lot of kids):

Sanitation Ranger(2)-gives a pump of hand sanitizer
Math Choice Manager(2)-Helps put math choice tubs back in order, I keep my math tubs numbered.
Calendar Changer (2)-This helps out so much because I never remember to do it, but they never forget!
Campground Attendant(2)-messenger, takes attendance to the office
Lunchroom helpers(2)-helps clean up after lunch
Camp Host-Welcomes guests who visit our room

Lunch Count(2)-These kids make sure everyone moves their card in the morning, then they put all of the cards back at the end of the day.
Camp Ranger -Answers questions, help other kids when I’m with a reading group
Wood Collector-Collects pencils off desks
Reading Ranger- Organizes classroom library
Conservation Officer- Waters plants
Behavior Cards-Turns all behavior cards back to green at the end of the day

Desk checker-makes sure reading group books and homework folders are not left in desks
“Deer” Door Holder
Lantern Lighter-Turns lights on and off
Camp Cleaner-makes sure all play ground equipment is brought in after recess
Power Ranger-Computers powered down at the end of the day
Campout Capper-checks glue and marker caps are on

Canteen Counter-counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 goodbye while students get drinks after recess (We don’t have drinking fountains on our playground, while we encourage students to bring water bottles, many don’t).
Scrap Scout-picks up scraps off floor

Giveaway Reminder and 2 Freebies!

First, don't forget enter my giveaway, $10.00 at Teachers Pay Teachers can get you some good stuff!  There is still time to enter by clicking here!

Freebie #1-   I was looking at Facebook and HeidiSongs posted a question for a friend asking about what you do at meet and greets before school starts.  One of the things that we do is pass out the first homework project of the year.  In this project families basically make a scrapbook page that is all about their child.  I got this idea from a friend a few years ago and I've been using it ever since!  The pages turn out great and we learn so much about the kids and their families.  Here is the letter we send home with a piece of construction paper.

Freebie #2- I got to thinking about my shared reading.  I love using big books.  We often use Thinking Maps after we are finished.  I wanted to come up simple sheets that I can use after any story on my smart board, blown up on a poster for groups, or as individual worksheets.  Here are a five that  I came up with.  I think I might even make them an option for students to use with Daily 5!

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you found something useful.  Don't forget to leave a comment or follow my page if you like what you see!
