Still in my PJ's!!

I LOVE that I'm still in my PJ's.  In my defense I did unload the dishwasher and I did an online ELL training.  That is a lot of work!  I've really not done much else.  I haven't even watched a movie.  I did finally fix-up one product and finish another.  That was work!  I'll show you them in just a second but first I have to share-my kids are giants and I am officially old!

Okay, I finally updated my Numbers on Ice game.  Now there is a multi-level card game for counting and number identification (including ten's frames), a roll and cover math game, and several review worksheets.

I also finally put the finishing touches on my I am a Writer book.  I've been working on this one for a while.  I've also been using it in my classroom. The book currently has 21 pages.  Each page is a different writing procedure or reminder.  Each day I focus on the pages that need the most emphasis in my classroom.  For me it is usually the When I am done page!  Here are a few pictures.

Hope you all had a very merry Christmas and got to spend some time in your pj's like I did!  Thanks for your time!

13 for 30

Merry Christmas! Bad blogger returns!  I figured that linking up with Ms. Kindergarten and Friends would be a good way to try to get back in the grove of things!  Have a very happy holiday!

13. Favorite article of clothing: I am addicted to tank tops (seriously).  I wear them under everything.  I think I might have a problem.  Really, I wear them under t-shirts (even when it's 110)!

12. Favorite movie you watched: The Impossible-It was just so good, moving...a must see!

11. Favorite TV series: I started watching Scandal!  It sucks you in!!! I just feel like Olivia Pope is one of my bff’s, it’s like we are connected! I am so glad to have found her, especially now that Dexter has left me! (He's coming back right)?
10. Favorite restaurant: HmmThis is a hard one.  I LOVE food, all food, but as many of you know I have this chronic migraine issue and so I’m now, get thisgluten free, dairy free, sugar free..  (I'll try anything to get rid of these headaches)!
Anyway, Eating can be difficult.  I've only actually eaten there once, but I fell in love with Bonefish Grill! I ate there before going gluten free, but bonus, they have a Gluten Free Menu and the Chilean Sea Bass is Oh so delicious!

9. Favorite new thing you tried: Going gluten free, I have to admit, it's a little hard, but so far I feel really good, and the migraines are much better!

8. Favorite gift you got: It is at work so I don't have a picture!  It's just a little block with a teacher saying.  But, my daughter bought it for me-with her own money!

7. Favorite thing you pinned: It is really so hard to choose, but this cracked me up when I was looking!

6. Favorite blog post: Admittedly I have been a bad blogger.  But I chose this post for two reasons  The first being that something had to be correct.  I was obviously rushing through something.  I actually wish that wasn't part of the post.  The real reason was the mitten pocket chart picture!  I love seeing that picture pinned and re-pinned.  It does the heart good!  It's such a good story and a great retelling strategy!

5. Best accomplishment:
This year I was asked to speak at our district’s kindergarten conference on staff development day!  I was super honored but so nervous because I am honestly not much of a public speaker.  Fortunately, everyone was very supportive, and I got to talk about shared writing (something I could chat about for quite some time) and I think I actually did okay!!!

4. Favorite picture: My daughter and my husband. I just love the way it captured the moment and their true relationship.

3. Favorite memory:
My baby girl graduated high school this year.  I can’t recall being so proud and sad all at the same time.  Bless her heart she wants to teach kindergarten!

2. Goal for 2014:  I feel like this year my goal has to be organization of my life.  Last year things just got so cluttered and I don't even know how it happened.  I wish I was a little more type A, but I am much more type hot mess! :)

1. One Little Word: Happy
Just love this little tune, I try to sing it to myself whenever I stress about life and it really does make me happy :)
Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry, be happy
In every life we have some trouble
But when you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy now

Oh!  One more thing!  I have been working on my Phonics Chant and Dance product for the last year.  I used it in my classroom last year but didn't get a chance to post it!  It's finally finished and I am so excited!  In honor of that I am sharing it for free, but only for the next 24 hours!  Please leave feedback if you get it!  Hope you like it!

Phonics Chant and Dance

Thanks to everyone who read my post and downloaded my product.  The Free for 24 hours is now over, but you can purchase it for only $4.00.  Thank you for following my blog.

The Best Thanksgiving Ever

Kind of funny, On Friday I was checking out pinterest and noticed that my sister in law, who is a teacher in NC pinned a coffee filter turkey craft.  The funny part was that I had just done that with my class, that day!!! They turned out pretty cute, and it was nice to do something different.

We read The Best Thanksgiving Ever by Teddy Slater.  It's a very cute story. At the end of the story the turkeys celebrate with Thanksgiving corn!  We used a circle map to brainstorm what other types of food the turkeys might like to celebrate with, besides turkeys.
Then we made our turkeys and speech bubbles!  The turkeys were really easy to make.  I just  drew them and ran them through the copier that copies onto construction paper.  The kids cut them out.  They used scrap paper for the feet, beak and waddle.  They colored their coffee filters with markers in the morning and we sprayed them with water.  They were dry and ready to glue by the afternoon.  Last year I did this with my half day class, we had to color the coffee filters the day before.

The kids were allowed to copy foods from the circle map onto their speech bubbles or they could sound out the words to spell other food items, one boy actually tackled quesadilla!

Here are the speech bubbles!

Thanks for stopping by!  Happy Thanksgiving!

Some Thanksgiving Stuff

I know it's been a while...sadly them Botox didn't do much for my chronic migraine.  I'm working on it from a nutritional angle.  My headaches no longer last for 3 days and that is a major improvement!  Even more sad, sitting down at the computer to type is not much fun with a headache.  But today is a good day.  So enough about me!  I wanted to talk about a few things I'm using in class right now!

This past week we started playing our Autumn Wishes Fall Nonsense Word Game during  small groups.  Most of the kids did much better than expected.  I think it really helps the kids who are still having a little trouble with letter sounds too. Not to mention it works wonders for blending!

The Thanksgiving CVC Word Card Game is also great for letter sounds and blending.

We do math choices nearly everyday.  The games students play during math choices are pretty much always the same, but we switch them out by theme. Right now we are using my Thanksgiving Math products.

Anyway, you can find any of these in my TPT store.  Just click on the picture.  I hope they can make your planning a bit easier!

Where I've Been, Shared Reading and a Quick Giveaway!

Why I haven’t been blogging...

This is the only part of the post that is personal, so for those of you who want to get to the school stuff (and I totally get that) skip to the next paragraph.  Anyway, I turned 40 and all you know what broke loose!  I’ve always been a migraine sufferer, but I suddenly stepped up into the chronic category.  We’re talking nearly every day.  I’ve tried eliminating my triggers, changing my diet, eliminating stress (as much as anyone can), getting more exercise, less exercise, yoga, meditation, more water, I’ve tried pretty much everything. Towards the end of the summer I finally dragged myself into a neurologist’s office (one of those “are you tired of living a maybe life” doctor’s from the TV commercial) and she’s doing her best to take care of me.  She put me on some medication that is supposed to prevent them, it doesn’t.  She doubled the dosage, it makes me sick.  On the bright side she ordered some tests to make sure that there are no brain tumors or anything scary like that(there are not).  We are now waiting for my insurance to approve the latest and greatest treatment-Botox! OMG!  I’m actually a little scared of it but at this point I will try anything.  So that is where I’m at.  Products and posting are kind of slow because when I feel good I put everything I have into my family and my classroom.  I have the greatest class this year! Fingers crossed that I will be feeling good soon (and wrinkle free)!

Shared Reading
I’m a big Fan of Shared Reading-It is a Daily must!  We do a Big Book and/or a poem absolutely every day.  The second week of school we always do Brown Bear, Brown Bear.  Kind of funny, at the end of last year the librarian sold me her Brown Bear big book, so I gave mine away to a new teacher.  Well I didn’t realize that I had purchased the original version that included the pink elephant and the gray mouse until I started reading it to the children.  It worked out great though because most of my students have been to pre-school and new the story by heart so they really enjoyed the new version!  We read the book all week long.

This is just a rough schedule with a few ideas-

Day 1-I read, pointing to the words.  The students were able to choral read as most of them new the story.  We discussed the pictures and predicted what would happened next.
Day 2-We discussed which animals we remembered from the story.  We re-read the story, pointed to the swords.  Students were able to choral read.
Day 3-Students wore character necklaces and student when it was their part
Day 4-Students took turns pointing to the words on the page while the rest of the class choral read
Day 5-We re-read the story-I have puppets of the characters that I passed out for students to hold-up as we re-read the story

After reading the story students each got to sponge paint an animal from the story.  I used some of the animals to make our color wall.  The remaining pictures were used to create a class book.  I bound the book and read it as a read aloud during the following week, then placed it in the library (keep in mind I am not a photographer or very good at crafts, but the kids still love reading the book-and that is the whole point)!.

This page just needs a class picture

I forgot to color the elephant, but you get the idea!-There is also a page without the elephant and mouse.

If you would like a copy of this little Brown Bear pack, leave a comment below.  I will give away three.   I hope that you use them and do shared reading every day! Thanks for reading my blog!
